multidisciplinary, cross-committee
collaboration. Their objective
was to formally establish a Native
Plant Month in all fifty states. This
initiative was spearheaded by
the Conservation, Horticulture,
and National Affairs & Legislation
committees, each chaired by
dedicated volunteers from across
the country.
Every year, club members from the
GCA’s 199 member clubs diligently
work towards formally establishing a
Native Plant Month in their respective
states. This can be achieved
through various means, such as
proclamations, resolutions, or even
permanent laws. The ultimate goal
is to make Native Plant Month a
permanent law.

club members. In the 昀椀rst year of this endeavor, 43 states
successfully established a Native Plant Month. While
many of these states require annual renewals, there are
now 15 states with permanent laws, including Tennessee.
Rest assured, the GCA is committed to this cause and will
continue to make strides in promoting native plants.
