One of the most special stops on the tour was the prayer garden.
Holmes’ collection of crosses honors miracles, celebrates
important moments, and pays tribute to Gold Star families
whose sacri昀椀ces have deeply a昀昀ected their lives. Nearby, a live
bird camera entertained visitors by showing the playful actions
of birds throughout the day, making both children and adults
smile.

She used the tomatoes in homemade
salsa and pasta sauce, shared extras with
neighbors, and sold some to local chefs.
The money from these sales helped pay
for college tours and educational camps
for her grandson, who is already starting
to love growing tomatoes himself.
All around the garden, visitors enjoyed
bright perennial borders, hydrangeas
full of blooms, and a pollinator garden
planted with help from Holmes’ “summer
interns,” her granddaughters. The
colorful beds were alive with bees,
butter昀氀ies, hummingbirds, and other
helpful pollinators. A second Japanese
maple brought even more beauty to the
changing landscape.
Holmes also talked about how the garden
kept changing after Storm Fern caused
damage. Even though several shrubs
and perennials were lost, her grandson
quickly helped remove the damaged
plants. This gave the family a chance to
redesign parts of the garden.
“Sometimes a storm gives you a fresh
canvas,” Holmes re昀氀ected. “We’ve
embraced the opportunity to reimagine
the garden while holding on to the
memories that made it special.”
